Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed surprised a lot of people when he opened training camp on the PUP list with a toe injury. It is an injury the team hoped was a short-term deal, but new information emerged Tuesday that indicates it could be much more of a long-term problem.

This is not good news. Not at all. As pointed out by Evan Silva of Rotoworld, this likely means Reed visited with Dr. Robert Anderson, who is a renowned surgeon who’s done tons of work for NFL players in the past.
Reed is the most dynamic offensive weapon on Washington’s roster. When he’s healthy, he’s one of the most productive tight ends in football and is a fantasy owner’s dream.
Unfortunately, this is a guy who just cannot stay healthy. He’s missed at least two games in each of his first four NFL seasons, playing a total of 46 games. In those games, he’s caught 248 passes for 2,602 yards and 20 touchdowns.
If Reed is forced to undergo surgery on his toe, that could mean a prolonged absence, if not a season-ending injury. It’s too early to say the sky is falling. But for a team that already lost two of its top receiving weapons via free agency this offseason, this isn’t good news.
