Jon Gruden on returning to coaching: ‘You never say never’

Jon Gruden

Jon Gruden last held a head coaching job when he coached the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2002-08. Away from the business for nine years, Gruden has not completely ruled out a return.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, I just know this: I’m going to continue to give my best effort to the game, stay prepared, and I love Monday Night Football, don’t plan on leaving, but as you know in life you never say never to nothing, Gruden said, via Mike & mike of ESPN.”

With some NFL head coaches currently riding the hot seat, it is not surprising Gruden’s name has come up. Outside of the NFL, Gruden was reportedly offered over $10 million per year in October to coach an ailing Tennessee Volunteers team.

Gruden’s passion right now is his Monday Night Football stint on ESPN. But, perhaps if the right NFL team approached him, he may consider giving head coaching one more shot.

Prior to coaching the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Gruden coached the Oakland Raiders from 1998-2001. He currently has a 95-81 record as an NFL head coach.
