John Harbaugh is not happy with Baltimore Ravens tight end Nick Boyle, and he’s not afraid to voice that displeasure.
Boyle missed the final four games of the Ravens’ 2015 season for a positive test that violated the NFL’s performance enhancing substance policy, and he will miss the first 10 games of 2016 for the same reason. Per Clifton Brown of CSN Mid-Atlantic, Harbaugh was not about to sugarcoat his feelings.
“I (already) said it was stupid, dumb, or whatever I said, and I double-down on that, because he did it again,” Harbaugh said at the NFL combine. “It’s even worse, because he knew he tested positive. It’s just ridiculous that he would do that, and he doesn’t have an explanation for it.
There’s no explanation for dumb. It’s just really, really dumb. It hurts us, it hurts him. He’s going to have to overcome it.”
Harbaugh is right on the money with this one. There’s no need to give a politically correct, polite answer.
Boyle has been in the NFL for less than a calendar year and now has two positive drug tests to his name. That shows a tremendous lack of judgment on the part of a young player, and his coach has every right to take him to task for it. Really, Harbaugh and the Ravens would have every right to part ways with Boyle.
Despite that, Brown also quoted Harbaugh saying that the team is not yet done with Boyle.
“When any player becomes more of a problem than they are a benefit, then they’ve got to go. I don’t see him there yet. I still think he’s going to be a really good player in this league. If he continues to double down on dumb, then he’s going to be out.”
Boyle was a fifth round pick for the Ravens in 2015. He played in 11 games in his rookie season, catching 18 passes for 153 yards.
