So much for the New York Jets being able to swoop in and add John Fox, who agreed to “mutually” part ways with the Denver Broncos on Monday afternoon.
Still looking to replace Rex Ryan as the team’s head coach, New York doesn’t seem to interest Fox.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Fox has turned down an opportunity to interview with one of the two NFL teams residing in New Jersey.
At nearly 60 years old, it makes sense that Fox would likely want to go to a situation where he can contend immediately. Despite a ton of talent on defense, the Jets simply aren’t at that point right now.
The odds-on favorite to land the Jets head coaching job remains Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who won’t be eligible to be hired until the defending champs are eliminated from postseason contention or win the Super Bowl.
As it relates to Fox, he promises to be in high demand over the course of the next few days. The successful former Carolina Panthers and Broncos head coach can be picky at this stage. He’s earned that right. By turning down an invite to interview with the Jets, it could also mean that Fox has something else in the works with another team.
