A few weeks into free agency, quarterback Colin Kaepernick remains among the unemployed. Therefore, there has been recent speculation that Kaepernick is being “blackballed” by the league.
We can now count Denver Broncos general manager John Elway as one of those who doesn’t think Kaepernick himself is being blackballed.
When pressed further about Kaepernick, Elway also said that he hasn’t been “studying up” and has never been “close enough” to Kap to know whether he can still play.
The Broncos currently house two young quarterbacks on their roster. For the time being, it appears they are happy with Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch competing for the starting job this summer.
Elway’s apparent lack of interest in Kaepernick suggests he is about as far off of the Broncos’ radar as ever. Remember, Denver came close to acquiring the much-maligned signal caller last spring before a trade with San Francisco fell through.
It will be interesting to see if any team in need of a quarterback decides to give the 29-year-old signal caller a chance this summer.
