During a recent interview, highly successful play-by-play voice Joe Buck had a strong response to those who don’t enjoy his work or feel he got major opportunities for being the son of a legendary baseball announcer: “I don’t give a s***.”
For many sports fans who started to closely follow the big four sports in the last couple of decades, Joe Buck is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, names on the media side of sports. He had an impressive career calling national MLB games for FOX, before moving on to a lead role on the No. 1 team for NFL games for the Network.

However, throughout his ascent to prominence, he has had many detractors. Most of them believe his rapid rise was from doors opening faster for him since he was the son of the iconic St. Louis Cardinals play-by-play voice Jack Buck. The surprising hate was something Buck was asked about during a recent appearance on the “Foul Territory Show” and he had a spicy retort.
“For 24 World Series I told at least half the audience that their team just lost, or they think I got my job because of my dad. Guess what? They’re right, I did,” Buck said. “I just took advantage of it and I’ve been doing network TV for 30 years. And I think there’s a little bit of jealousy in there but other than that, I really don’t give a s***.
“They don’t know me. I think I need to worry more about the people that do. If fans like me great. If they don’t that’s fine too,” he added. “I think I’m old enough now at 55 to know that you’re not going to please everybody, and if you try to you’re going to fail. And most likely you’re going to be pretty boring never having an opinion and never getting excited.”

While he may have his haters, clearly the networks love him. Two years ago, Joe Buck landed a massive contract with ESPN that allegedly could pay him as much as $75 million to be the voice of Monday Night Football on the cable network.
