Jimmy Johnson blasts Jason Garrett for attending World Series game

One of the many celebrities at Dodger Stadium for Game 3 of the World Series on Friday was Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett. That did not sit well with the team’s former coach, Jimmy Johnson.

Speaking on Fox’s “NFL Sunday,” Johnson addressed the issue. While his comments were brief, his message was clear.

“Well, I know the World Series, it’s huge,” Johnson said, H/T Brad Townsend of The Dallas Morning News. But perception: I think it sends the wrong message, not only to the fans, but to the players. At 3-4, there’s work to be done.”

It’s certainly not a baseless claim. The geography of the matter certainly doesn’t help. If the World Series was being played in Arlington or even in Houston, his attendance may not be quite so noticeable. But halfway across the country, it’s hard to ignore.

Given Dallas’ struggles in 2018, we can certainly see why Johnson or anyone would be a little put off by this.

Garrett and the Cowboys can quiet this narrative in Week 9 by beating the Tennessee Titans. Should Tennessee win, though, expect the chatter to only get louder.
