Jimmy Garoppolo suffers back injury, takes ambulance to hospital

Jimmy Garoppolo and the Las Vegas Raiders are hosting the New England Patriots on Sunday at Allegiant Stadium in one of the biggest matchups of the year for both teams. Garoppolo, of course, played for coach Bill Belichick for his first three seasons after becoming a second-round pick in 2014.

But Garoppolo’s reunion would be short-lived after being forced to leave the game just before halftime due to a back injury. Yet, Garoppolo didn’t leave the field of play right away after the apparent injury, choosing to stay in and finish the drive. That appeared to be a strong sign of his condition.

Then, reports surfaced of Garoppolo being forced to take an ambulance to a hospital for further medical evaluation.

Rookie fourth-round pick Aidan O’Connell started in place of Garoppolo while the Raiders QB missed Week 4 due to a concussion. This time around the Raiders opted to plug journeyman veteran Brian Hoyer in to relieve Garoppolo instead.

Garoppolo has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday’s game against the Patriots. The severity of his injury is not yet known, but we’ll update this page as soon as more information becomes available.
