Jets place Eric Decker on IR, will have season-ending surgery

The New York Jets will likely be without one of their top playmakers on offense for the remainder of the season.

According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport the team placed wide receiver Eric Decker on injured reserve Wednesday morning.

Decker suffered a partially torn rotator cuff in New York’s Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. At that point, there was an expectation that he might not be out over the long term.

That can now be thrown out the window.

Rapoport goes on to indicate that Decker will have season-ending surgery on the injured shoulder.

Decker, 29, put up one of the best performances of his career last season with the Jets. He caught 80 passes for over 1,000 yards with a dozen touchdowns.

Now that Decker is out for the season, expect third-year receiver Quincy Enunwa to continue playing a larger role for a Jets team that could soon be playing out the string following a 1-4 start to the season.
