Jets could target Tyrod Taylor and Mike Glennon over Jay Cutler

Tyrod Taylor

Two things are practically certain heading into the 2017 NFL season. The New York Jets need a new quarterback. Jay Cutler of the Chicago Bears will also likely be looking for a new job.

A recent report suggested that the Jets might be a potential landing spot for Cutler (more on that here.) The team hired quarterbacks coach Jeremy Bates who worked with Cutler from 2006-08. It was back in 2008 that Cutler put up the only Pro Bowl performance of his career with the Denver Broncos. Cutler also spent 2012 working with Bates in Chicago.

However, new developments are suggesting that the Jets may be interested in pursuing Buffalo Bills’ quarterback Tyrod Taylor or free-agent signal caller Mike Glennon, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.

Taylor signed a five-year, $90 million deal with the Bills last year. But Buffalo played it safe with the contract, only guaranteeing his salary for the 2016 season. The contract also allows the Buffalo to cut him this offseason.

Taylor started in 15 games in 2016, tallying 3,613 total yards with 23 touchdowns. Considering the Bills fired Rex Ryan, they may choose to move on from Taylor and start anew. In fact, that seems to be the most-likely end result (more on that here).

Regarding Glennon, he spent 2016 backing up Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ quarterback Jameis Winston.  Glennon saw the bulk of his action in Tampa Bay as a rookie back in 2013, throwing for 2,608 yards and 19 touchdowns.

This news potentially leaves Cutler out in the cold when it comes to a reunion with Bates. Though, now a month away from the start of free agency, things can quickly change from this perspective.
