New York Jets left tackle Duane Brown was activated from injured reserve after an injury that’s kept him out since September.

Brown, 38, was added to the 53-man roster on the final day of his 21-day practice window. Had the Jets not made the move to activate him, Brown would have been stuck on the IR for the rest of the season.

Brown played the first two games of the season before being placed on IR in Week 3 with shoulder and hip issues. Brown has recently referenced a groin injury.

The Jets face the Miami Dolphins in the NFL’s first Black Friday game, though it’s not clear what role Brown will play, if any.

Mekhi Becton started the past eight games at left tackle, but he sprained an ankle during last Sunday’s 32-6 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Rookie Carter Warren finished the game in his place.

Brown is a five-time Pro Bowl selection with 217 career starts across 16 seasons with the Houston Texans (2008-17), Seattle Seahawks (2017-21) and Jets.

He was selected by the Texans with the 26th overall pick of the 2008 NFL Draft out of Virginia Tech. He signed a two-year, $20 million deal with the Jets in August 2022.
