Jerry Jones to holdout Ezekiel Elliott: ‘I went to bat for you’

It sure looks like there’s some hurt feelings in negotiations between the Dallas Cowboys and holdout running back Ezekiel Elliott.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones went on record recently indicating that his team does not need the reigning rushing champion on the field to win the Super Bowl.

With negotiations previously said to be taking a turn for the better, Jones went on record again Wednesday to throw the gauntlet down on Mr. Elliott.

“I went to bat for you.”

There’s no reason to read between the lines here. Those words are as clear as the air.

Jones is talking about the six-game suspension Elliott received during the 2017 season following domestic violence allegations.

At least, that’s the basic premise. However, there’s two other incidents Jones could be talking about.

Back in 2017, Elliott was involved in a car accident in Frisco. Both the running back and Cowboys are being sued, claiming that they attempted to cover up the incident with local authorities.

Then, earlier this year, Elliott was involved in an altercation in Las Vegas. While he was initially cleared by the NFL, authorities in Vegas currently have Elliott as the subject of a criminal investigation.

It’s rather clear where Jones is coming from here. He’s personally done everything possible to help Elliott. That’s being reminded in the negotiations.
