Jerry Jones to Dez Bryant: “Let’s Just Win five Super Bowls in a Row”

The Dallas Cowboys and wide receiver Dez Bryant came to an agreement on a five-year $70 million contract on Wednesday just hours before the franchise tag deadline was set to pass.

Owner Jerry Jones, who was obviously ecstatic when he heard the news of the agreement, had this to say to Bryant after the receiver was locked up long term (via Sports Illustrated):

“I just want to hug your neck. I’m so proud,” said Jones, who was calling from New York. “Congratulations. Let’s just win five Super Bowls in a row, how about it?”

We’ll let you digest the words “hug your neck” for a second here.

However, Jones’ enthusiasm about winning five Super bowls in a row is quite ambitious. Is he subtly saying that Bryant better hold up his end of the bargain and lead the team to multiple Super Bowls?

Whatever the message, Bryant appears to be on board with Jones:

“Yes sir, why not? Yes sir, we are. I’m excited,” Bryant told Jones. “I cannot wait. I think this is the year. We got it.”

Bryant and the Cowboys are coming off of a promising 12-4 season that resulted in a division title. Unfortunately, their playoff run ended against the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field in the divisional round.

Building off of the success of the 2014 season, it sounds like Jones and Bryant want to recreate the magic of the 1990s when the Cowboys won three Super Bowls in a four-year span.

A positive attitude is the perfect way to start.
