Jerry Jones: Tavon Austin is like … Michael Irvin?

Cowboys receiver Tavon Austin

The Dallas Cowboys have been touting Tavon Austin like he’s the second coming of Kal-El since he was acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Rams.

Now comes a comparison we never thought we’d see.

Jerry Jones said of Austin on Sunday that, “His energy is Michael Irvin-ish,” per Ed Werder, who added that Austin has been one of the players who has impressed Cowboys coaches the most this summer.

That’s pretty intense.

Irvin was a serious firebrand for Dallas back in the 1990s. He was the team’s emotional leader, along with its best receiver.

Austin has yet to prove he can become a star on the field for the ‘Boys. They certainly have extremely high expectations for him. But at least he’s showing he can bring the energy to the locker room, which is no small thing.
