Jerry Jones staunchly defends Jason Garrett as his head coach

Dallas Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett

The Dallas Cowboys have taken a huge step backward in 2017 compared to what they accomplished in 2016. So, is Jason Garrett on the hot seat?

Things have especially taken a turn for the worst since running back Ezekiel Elliott was finally put on the shelf due to his six-game suspension. Since then, Dallas has lost three games in a row, losing by a grand total of 92-22.

The offense is suddenly a broken thing, and the defense cannot keep teams from taking advantage. This has led many to wonder if Jason Garrett should keep his job.

Well, the man who makes those decisions isn’t wondering anything of the sort.

“Jason Garrett was named Coach of the Year of the whole NFL last year,” owner Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, via Drew Davison of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “That was yesterday. This is today. The point is, I like this coaching staff.”

Jones has been a staunch supporter of Garrett for years now. He’s stuck with the head coach through more perilous situations than the one Dallas is currently in the middle of, and nobody should expect him to suddenly change his mind.

Even if the Cowboys end up missing the playoffs this year, Jones isn’t going to change who he is. He stuck with him during the four seasons in which Dallas went 8-8 or worse and seems to have a very good relationship with the coach. Perhaps this is because Garrett doesn’t rock the boat and lets Jones run the personnel side without any arguments.

Regardless, it’s clear that Garrett has some of the best job security in the NFL. This season’s troubles won’t change that.
