Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has made news this week by both shading Ezekiel Elliott and underplaying the holdout running back’s importance to the team’s success.
He doesn’t seem like a man that’s concerned about Zeke’s holdout. Jones pretty much confirmed that talking with reporters on Thursday.
In fact, the longtime owner said he wouldn’t be concerned even if the holdout lasts months into the regular season.
That’s a nice poker face from Mr. Jones. But the reality of the situation is that Elliott remains Dallas’ most important player.
Consider this: Dak Prescott boasts a 4-4 record with a quarterback rating of just over 70 in the eight games Elliott has missed over the past three seasons.
With the two on the field together, Dallas is 28-12 and Prescott boasts a 100.0 rating.
This holdout is certainly getting ugly. Dallas is unwilling to set a new benchmark for running backs in a potential Elliott extension. If that’s the case, we could see him holding out until midseason.
