Already thinking ahead to Super Bowl LIII (53), Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed that the Atlanta Falcons’ new Mercedes-Benz Stadium would be the perfect venue for the 2019 Championship game.
“Well, that stadium has Super Bowl written all over it,” Jones said, per Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com following practice at the Senior Bowl. “It is nothing short of magnificent, and I’m not exaggerating. With the entire franchise, (Blank) has put his heart and soul into it.”
Jones continued, speaking highly of Atlanta’s owner.
“I’m very proud to have him as an owner in the league. And I’m very proud of that stadium not only for the Atlanta fans, the Falcons fans, but also for the league. It’s going to be one of our great assets. It’s certainly going to be a great place to play a Super Bowl.”
The ideal scenario for Jones would be his Cowboys playing in Super Bowl 53 in Atlanta’s shiny, new stadium, though he didn’t state the obvious.
Per the report, the 2019 bid will be discussed at the NFL owners’ spring meeting. The Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, the Buccaneers’ Raymond James Stadium and Miami’s Sun Life Stadium are reportedly all contenders for Super Bowl LIII.
Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium is slated to open in 2017. Perhaps with an endorsement from an owner that carries a lot of clout like Jones, Atlanta might be in the lead for the vote.
Following Super Bowl 50, the next two championship games are scheduled to take place in Houston’s NRG Stadium and Minnesota’s new U.S. Bank Stadium.
