Whether you celebrate by being covered in green clothing from head to toe or by chugging green-tinted frothy beers, St. Patrick’s Day is a tradition like no other. This year, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish have another reason to celebrate on March 17.

According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Recruits, Jerome Bettis Jr., the son of former Pittsburgh Steelers legend and Notre Dame icon Jerome Bettis, has committed to playing football for the Fighting Irish. Bettis Jr. may be following in his father’s footsteps by playing at Notre Dame, but unlike his dad, he is a wide receiver instead of a running back.

Bettis Jr. is a 6-foot-3, 190-pound receiver who is currently viewed as a three-star prospect. Yet, with the proper coaching and training, he could become even better.

His dad spent three years with the Fighting Irish before turning pro. Then Bettis became the 10th overall pick in the 1993 NFL Draft, joining the Los Angeles Rams. But things didn’t work out with the Rams, and Bettis was dealt to the Steelers in 1996, where he found immediate success. Bettis would go on to play ten seasons in Pittsburgh, helping them win Super Bowl XL in his hometown of Detroit. It would be the final season of the Hall of Fame running back’s career.

Now, his son is set to begin his college path at Notre Dame, just like his father did back in 1990.
