NFL Media Insider Mike Garafolo has reported that the NFL fined Seattle Seahawks’ wide receiver Jermaine Kearse $5,512 for throwing the football he caught for the game-winning touchdown in the NFC Championship game into the crowd (h/t Fox Sports).
Kearse, who missed four catches earlier in the game, had this to say about why he threw the football.
That throw … it was more so just a sigh of just frustration. Just letting a lot of frustration throughout that game out. I just tried to throw it as far as possible. It was just something that happened in the moment.
Apparently Kearse’s expensive act of frustration was not cool with the NFL as the fans attempt to catch the football could have caused crowd safety issues.
Interestingly enough, the fan who caught the football was scheduled to report to jail the next day.
