Midfielder/defender Jeff Larentowicz announced his retirement on Monday following a 16-year career in Major League Soccer.
Larentowicz, 37, issued a statement through a third party on Twitter. He is not on social media.
Larentowicz has served as the captain of Atlanta United. He joined the club in its first season in 2017 and guided it to the MLS Cup in 2018. He was not re-signed by the club following the 2020 season.
The product of Brown University made his MLS debut in 2005 with the New England Revolution and spent five seasons with the club. Larentowicz has also played for the Colorado Rapids (2010-12), Chicago Fire (2013-15) and Los Angeles Galaxy (2016). He has been a part of two MLS Cup winning teams and two U.S. Open Cup titles.
Larentowicz has recorded 42 goals and 23 assists in 437 MLS matches (397 starts).
