Jason Pierre-Paul suffered a neck fracture last week during a single-car accident, and he’s seeking more information about whether he will require season-ending surgery.

However, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Pierre-Paul has “hope” that he might not need surgery, and that his neck injury could heal on its own — perhaps even in time for Week 1.

If Pierre-Paul does need surgery, then his 2019 season would be effectively over. However, is he can recover without going under the knife, he could play at least part of the season, if not all, assuming there are no complications.

Set to play out the third year of a four-year deal, Pierre-Paul is slated to make $14.9 million, $7.5 million of which is guaranteed.

In his first season with Tampa Bay, he racked up 12.5 sacks and 20 quarterback hits.
