Kansas City Chiefs veteran running back Jamaal Charles is one of the most versatile backs in the business and for that, he deserves some respect. With running backs DeMarco Murray, Adrian Peterson and LeSean McCoy dominating headlines all offseason, it is time we recognize Charles, who had this to report:
“Sometimes I feel like I’m the LeBron of football,” Charles told reporters at Chiefs camp, according to Terez Paylor of The Kansas City Star, “because I can do so much.”
Over the past three seasons, Charles has averaged 1,276 rushing yards and eight rushing scores per season. Showcasing his talent as a pass-catcher, Charles tallied 1,220 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns during this period of time.
Comparing himself to King James, who has played in six NBA finals and won two is interesting, considering the Chiefs haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1969. That was 17 years before Charles was even born. However, Charles is hands-down the true workhorse for the Chiefs and we can all agree that James is consistently MVP material no matter where he is playing. For this, the two players could be compared.
During Charles’ history with the Chiefs, the best the team has done is appear in two wildcard playoff losses in 2010 and 2013. Let’s hope Charles can inch closer in comparison to James by actually making it to a Super Bowl while he still has a few good years left to play in Kansas City.
