The last half-decade has been extremely unkind to Jake Butt’s knee ligaments, but the Denver Broncos tight end doesn’t plan to hang up the cleats following his latest injury.
In a post on Twitter, Butt acknowledged his disappointment but said he aims to continue his football career after rehabbing from a third ACL tear.

In February 2014 while at the University of Michigan, Butt tore his right ACL. The same injury happened during the 2016 Orange Bowl, his final college game.
Butt collected $500,000 because of an insurance policy that protected him from an injury-related fall during the NFL draft. Once considered a second-round pick, he fell to the fourth round in 2016.
This time, the injury happened to his left knee. Butt will undergo surgery to repair the tear, and the ensuing recovery will prevent him from playing in 2018.
Considering all the effort it takes to rehab from a serious injury like this, hopefully it’s the last season Butt spends watching from the sideline. Three ACL tears is more than enough for one lifetime.
