Chicago Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta threw his first career no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers. With 12 strike outs, one walk and one error, Arrieta was nothing short of dominant in the 2-0 win.
Proving his slider is the best in the MLB, Arrieta relied on his out pitch to keep Dodgers batters off-balance to make history while picking up his 17th win of the season.
Speaking with Buster Olney after the game, Arrieta said, “it’s a great feeling.”
Starlin Castro was charged with a controversial error on a hard, one-bouncer ground ball by Kike Hernandez in the third inning. Arrieta admitted after the game that he thought the Castro error should have been a hit.
This is the first Chicago Cubs no hitter since Carlos Zambrano in 2008.
The Cubs move to 74-55 and are five games up on the San Francisco Giants for the second NL Wild Card spot. The Pittsburgh Pirates are are five games ahead of the Cubs for the first Wild Card Spot.
