The Jacksonville Jaguars may very well be relying on rookie second-round pick Marqise Lee to make a major impact in his first season with the team. With Justin Blackmon still under indefinite suspension and Ace Sanders slated to miss the first four games of the season, Gus Bradley’s squad needs a young pass catcher to step up opposite Cecil Shorts.
Apparently Bradley wasn’t too thrilled with Lee’s performance in the Jaguars preseason opener Friday evening against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (via The Florida Times- Union.
I think that’s one of those things we’re looking at – it’s the consistency. Run your routes [like the football] is coming to you. You can’t change speeds. You can’t choose when and when not to. I’ve told you before that I’ve seen him switch to where he’s more focused.
Lee, who played 16 total snaps in his NFL preseason debut, failed to record a single catch or target in the game. While still attempting to refrain from calling Lee out publicly, Bradley continued…
I’d like to visit with him about what happened [Friday]. He did play good, but he could have done some things even more precise. It wasn’t exactly where we need him to be.
Indicating that a player isn’t where you want him to be can be considered strong criticism, especially when you do so publicly. Bradley’s comments about Lee could very well act as a wake-up call for the talented young receiver.
