The Jacksonville Jaguars head into the offseason with plenty of needs and a plethora of draft picks to address them. Now., as the 2020 NFL Draft draws closer, Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell said the team is open to trading the No. 9 overall pick.
Jacksonville will head into the draft with at least two first-round picks at its disposal, with the No. 20 overall selection coming over via the Jalen Ramsey trade. It gives Caldwell plenty of options for when the 2020 NFL Draft arrives on April 23, allowing him to move in whatever direction works for the organization.
“You know you have the one at 20 sitting there,″ Caldwell said, via Jacksonville.com. “If you want to move back from nine and pick up some picks later. Right now, we have [10] picks, and we’ll see what we have come draft day.″
The Jaguars could be in a position with the No. 9 selection where another NFL team wants to move into the top-10 to land quarterback Jordan Love. If the right offer presents itself, Caldwell could move down a few spots and pick up an additional second-round pick in the loaded 2020 draft class.
It’s the kind of flexibility that could put Jacksonville in a position to make any move when the 2020 NFL Draft arrives. For instance, they could trade down from the No. 9 pick and also move up from the No. 20 overall selection.
Given the needs this team has on both sides of the ball, navigating throughout the draft with multiple moves might be the best way to add talent. It will certainly add another interesting storyline to watch when the draft arrives.
