Jaguars’ Blake Bortles on extension: ‘I tricked them’

Blake Bortles’ career as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars will almost certainly come to an end following this season.

Bortles was benched in favor of Cody Kessler back in Week 13 after struggling big time as the team’s starting quarterback this season.

Said struggles came mere months after Jacksonville handed the most mistake-prone quarterback in the NFL a three-year, $54 million extension last offseason.

In talking about his future with the good people over at Barstool Sports, Bortles had this hilarious take on the extension Jacksonville gave him.

“I tricked them a year early.”

The comment was obviously in jest. It also followed Bortles talking about changing positions and potentially playing in the Arena Football League as the next stop in his career.

Known very well for having a self-deprecating sense of humor, who can’t get behind Bortles making fun of himself? This is all sorts of amazing from the struggling quarterback.

The reality of the situation is that Bortles will likely get a chance with another team this coming offseason. Whether that’s as a starter or a backup remains to be seen. But his days in Duval are done.
