Jadeveon Clowney Is The Best Player in the Draft According to Texans’ Owner Bob McNair

While it appears that Houston Texans owner Bob McNair clearly thinks Jadeveon Clowney, the defensive end out of the University of South Carolina, is the best pick in the 2014 NFL draft, it will remain to be seen if the Texans, who currently have the first draft pick actually select Clowney.

Reported by Fox Sports were these comments shared by McNair:

Really at this point we don’t know and we really won’t know until right up at the time we have to make a decision because people are talking to us about the possibility of trading down and it’s a question of what people offer, whether their offer is such that it’s worthwhile to trade down,” McNair told FOX 26 in Houston.

Yes, the Texans could trade that precious overall first pick to another desperate team if a sweet enough trade offer was proposed, therefore likely giving up their one and only shot at Clowney. But, on the flipside, we can all agree that a quarterback is a definite need for the Texans, and for that, they do not need to possess that first overall pick, as there are a handful of choice draft quarterback prospects anxiously waiting to hear their name called on May 8.

McNair further comments regarding the Texans possibility at selecting a quarterback, via Fox Sports..

You got three quarterbacks and all of them have some holes in their resume,” McNair said. “A quarterback that goes out and performs for you and is a franchise quarterback is more valuable than a player playing another position, but there’s a lot more risk there. It’s a more difficult position to play and there are a lot more failures.

If the Texans do decide to select Clowney, can you imagine the dual-threat in Clowney paired opposite of J.J. Watt in their defensive line? The Texans defense could actually cause some grief for their upcoming 2014 opponents such as the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins, just to name a few.

The Texans do have 11 picks in the upcoming draft, regardless of who they select in the first couple of rounds they’re bound to choose some surprise studs and some likely duds in their later-round picks. Overall, if the Texans choose wisely, we’ll see a stronger team in 2014. There is really nowhere to go but up as a result of a lousy 2-14 season last year.

Obviously, all sorts of speculation about what the Texans plans are is flooding Twitter.

See what I mean? Who is your choice for the Texans first pick, or do you think they’ll trade away their No. 1 pick and miss out on all of the above?
