Jacob deGrom’s son is reportedly on his way to health after scary “complications” following his birth Monday.
Manager Terry Collins spoke about this encouraging development, via ESPN’s Adam Rubin:
“Last night I talked to him,” Collins said Sunday morning. “The baby is doing better. That was a good sign. I just told Jake he needs to get some rest and mix in a meal.”
Not surprisingly, Collins said deGrom seems exhausted, “mentally more than physically.”
The New York Mets pitcher was placed on the MLB family emergency list Saturday night when his son, Jaxon Anthony, experienced what’s being described as “complications” to his health.
This designation means deGrom will be inactive from between three to seven days, per Rubin’s report. The pitcher isn’t staying inactive while staying away from the Mets, though. Another sign that things are going well with Jaxon, deGrom was pitching at the team’s Florida facility Sunday morning.
If deGrom’s baby boy does continue on the road to recovery, he could pitch for the Mets as early as next weekend in Atlanta, per the report.
We wish him, his wife and family well as they all hope and pray for Jaxon’s full recovery.
