Memphis Grizzlies star guard Ja Morant remains suspended from team activities after a second incident of the year emerged on social media of the All-Star flashing a gun.
In what was a scary situation on social media Wednesday, Morant sent several posts on his Instagram page that caused authorities in Tennessee to conduct a welfare check on the star guard.
The posts were cryptic but could have easily been interpreted as an individual nearing self-harm or seeking out some help:
As you can see, the posts depict Morant in photos with his mom, dad and daughter. The last one with the caption “bye” in the since-deleted posts was the most troublesome.
Morant told officers from the Shelby County (Tenn.) Sheriff’s Office that “he is taking a break from social media” as they conducted a welfare check.
Per TMZ Sports, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office added that “he is fine” in relation to Ja Morant.
Morant was initially suspended by the NBA during the regular season for a post on social media in which he flashed a gun in a Denver nightclub during a road trip in which the Grizzlies took on the Nuggets.
Morant’s last public comments came after the most-recent post led to his suspension from the Grizzlies and an ongoing investigation on the part of the NBA.
“I know I’ve disappointed a lot of people who have supported me. This is a journey and I recognize there is more work to do. My words may not mean much right now, but I take full accountability for my actions. I’m committed to continuing to work on myself,” Ja Morant said.
