Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco couldn’t have imagined at the start of the day that he would be spending some time in a hospital. Unfortunately, the unexpected happen after Carrasco was hit in the elbow by a line drive off the bat of Minnesota Twins star Joe Mauer in the second inning.
Carrasco was immediately removed from the game and sent to the hospital for X-rays.
Carrasco, 31, is pitching to the tune of an 8-4 record with a 3.90 ERA and 1.13 WHIP in 14 starts for the first-place Indians this season.
The worst-case scenario here is a fracture of the elbow. Though, Cleveland is certainly holding out hope that one of its best pitchers suffered nothing more than a contusion.
More will certainly come out later on Saturday. For now, the Indians are holding their collective breaths.
