Junior point guard Jeremiah Fears committed to Illinois on Monday.

“I’m staying home to try to win a national championship,” Fears said in a livestream of his commitment ceremony, donning a Fighting Illini cap.

Fears, the younger brother of Michigan State guard Jeremy Fears, is a Class of 2025 headliner rated as a five-star recruit, according to ESPN, and a four-star guard by 247 Sports, as well as Rivals. He’s a top-50 player according to the rankings on all three sites with ESPN ranking him No. 16 overall.

Primarily a point guard, Jeremiah Fears left Joliet West High School in suburban Chicago to play this season at Arizona Compass Prep. Jeremy and Jeremiah were teammates at Joliet last season, with the younger brother averaging more than 16 points, five rebounds and four assists per game.

When he arrives at Illinois in 2025, Jeremiah Fears will join program whose 2024 recruiting class was ranked in the top 20 and also was anchored by a Chicago product in Morez Johnson, a 6-9 forward from Thornton Township High School.
