Ice Cube shades Kawhi Leonard, Paul George after joining Clippers

Hip-hop icon Ice Cube is known around California for being a fan of sports teams in the southern part of the state.

He has not been bashful about supporting the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and the NFL’s Oakland Raiders dating back to their days in the city.

It does not look like the Big3 co-founder is as excited about the Los Angeles Clippers. With his league set to take to the Staples Center for the championship game this weekend, Ice Cube found a way to shade Paul George, Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers.

“I wish they would have come to the Lakers, but I guess they picked the team that they were more comfortable playing with,” he said about George and Leonard joining the Clippers, via Arash Markazi of the Los Angeles Times. “You got to be special to play for the Lakers. You have to be ready for all that comes with that. Those championship banners and those jerseys are looking down at you when you play for the Lakers, and it’s probably easier to play if you cover those up for some people.”

Comfortable playing with a lesser franchise. Not special enough to suit up for the Lakers. Those are some fighting words right there. Not only that, Cube wants to expel the Clippers from Southern California completely.

“The Clippers are like your cousin who moved in and starts thinking it’s his house because he’s been there for so long,” Cube said. “I really think they should move the team. We didn’t ask them to come here. I think it’s unfair to so many cities in America who don’t have a team like Seattle that we have two teams here in L.A.”

Clippers owner Steve Ballmer has looked at the possibility of moving the team to Inglewood. But he’s not open to relocating from Southern California altogether.

For the first time in what seems to be ages, the Lakers and Clippers are going to have a major rivalry this season. In addition to the Clips adding Leonard and George, the Lakers will team LeBron James up with Anthony Davis.

Get your popcorn ready, this is going to be a blast.
