Ian Book officially listed as Notre Dame’s starting QB

After watching Ian Book shred Stanford’s secondary Saturday night, it’s hardly surprising but still noteworthy that he’s officially listed as the team’s starting quarterback heading into Week 6.

Head coach Brian Kelly has been pretty coy the past couple of weeks about saying he might play either Book or Brandon Wimbush in any given week. Also, heading into the Stanford game, he listed Book and Wimbush as “or” starters, which is why this is an important distinction.

Notre Dame’s offense has soared to new heights the past two weekends with Book under center against Wake Forest and Stanford. The Fighting Irish have put up 1,116 total yards and 94 points in these two games.

As for Book, the junior has completed 74.3 percent of his passes for 616 yards with seven touchdowns and no interceptions. Meanwhile, Wimbush has completed 55.3 percent of his passes for 589 yards with one touchdown and four interceptions.

It’s an easy choice, really.

The Fighting Irish were just barely scraping by with Wimbush under center. Now that Book is the man, this is a team that has legitimate championship aspirations.
