Hue Jackson not sure if franchise QB is on Browns roster

If Hue Jackson ever wants a chance to hit the political circuit, pollsters say he might have a bright future in that arena.

The Cleveland Browns head coach was asked about his quarterback situation on Monday. He was confronted with the question of whether the Browns currently have “that guy” at quarterback that all franchises dream of having. Of course, the guy who might be “that guy” for Cleveland is Robert Griffin III, who was pretty uneven this year in the limited snaps he played.

Jackson gave a response that didn’t divulge much of anything.

“Honestly, I really want to watch all of the tape and to give everyone an honest evaluation and be fair to him,” Jackson said, per Fred Greetham of Scout.com. “Just to come out after a game, is not fair.  I can assure you that we are going to do our due diligence of looking at everything we can to give you guys that answer as soon as we can.”

Griffin III didn’t get the chance to really prove much of anything this year (unless you believe his own evaluation), other than the fact that he still struggles to play from behind center. He completed barely 59 percent of his passes, averaged 177 yards per game and threw only two touchdowns compared to three interceptions in the five games he participated in.

Because of this, Cleveland is in an awkward position as it pertains to the future of the organization at this most critical position.

“We’re still not sure (the franchise quarterback) is not on our team right now,” Jackson said. “We have to continue to evaluate and go through it, but I know that’s what that particular position has to have.”

Owners of the No. 1 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Browns have their pick of the top prospects in the nation. Some believe they should go defense and select Myles Garrett. Others think a quarterback is needed. The biggest question is this: Who do the Browns think is going to be the best fit going forward?

Based on the way things currently stand, nobody knows that answer right now.
