This might actually be safe to report. After all the drama surrounding a potential Carlos Gomez trade from the Milwaukee Brewers to the New York Mets on Wednesday evening, it appears that Milwaukee has finally found a landing spot for the two-time All-Star outfielder.
According to CBS Sports insider Jon Heyman, Gomez has been traded along with starter Mike Fiers to the Houston Astros.

Following Houston’s acquisition of Scott Kazmir last week, most of the focus turned to adding another bat to what has been a potent lineup. Gomez, 29, entered Thursday’s action hitting .262 with eight homers, 43 RBI’s and a total of 29 extra-base hits.
Considering Gomez had hit 19-plus homers in each of the past three seasons, it has been somewhat of a down year from a power standpoint. Under team control for just $9 million next season, this is a tremendous move for Houston both moving forward this season and into the future.
In adding the 30-year-old Fiers to the mix, Houston also nabs a capable rotation arm for the foreseeable future. The righty has posted a solid 3.89 ERA with over a strikeout per inning in 21 starts this year. And while his 5-9 record suggests some struggles, most of that has to do with a lack of run support.

Fox Sports MLB insider has details of the prospects heading to Milwaukee in the deal. The headliner is outfielder Brett Phillips, who was Houston’s second-ranked prospect at the time of the deal. Phillips, 21, was a sixth-round pick back in the 2012 draft. He’s hitting .320 with a .925 OPS between High Single-A and Double-A ball this year. Phillips has also added 16 homers, 71 RBI’s and 15 stolen bases on the season.
The other names headed to Milwaukee include starting pitchers Josh Hader and Adrian Houser as well as outfielder Domingo Santana. Santana was Houston’s seventh-ranked prospect, while Hader came in at No. 14 and Houser at 21st within the organization’s farm system.
Houston confirmed that the deal was complete, ending any potential speculation that what occurred Wednesday night might happen again.

Houston entered Thursday’s action with a one-game lead over the Los Angeles Angels in the American League West. Adding Gomez and Fiers to the mix will be huge down the stretch.
