Here’s the hilarious reason Lane Kiffin got an NCAA violation

Lane Kiffin

Lane Kiffin has become an entertaining follow on social media, but one of his hilarious, harmless tweets actually resulted in an NCAA violation.

In late October, the Florida Atlantic head coach responded to posts from Lamar Jackson and joked that the Louisville quarterback should return home to South Florida and play for FAU.

While appearing on The Dan Le Batard Show, Kiffin — after not biting on a playful suggestion to bring Jalen Hurts to Boca Raton if the Alabama quarterback decides to transfer — confirmed that he received a violation for tweeting at Jackson.

The quarterback attended Boynton Beach High School, which is approximately 15 miles from the Florida Atlantic campus.

Kiffin has increased his activity on social media as a way to market himself and the FAU program, but that can be a delicate effort because of NCAA rules. Coaches are not allowed to actively recruit players on other college rosters, so Kiffin would’ve been tagged with a secondary violation for “contacting” Jackson.

No reasonable person actually believes Kiffin was recruiting the 2016 Heisman Trophy winner, but rules are rules.
