The Atlanta Hawks said Thursday that guard Dejounte Murray will miss approximately two weeks due to a left ankle sprain he suffered during Wednesday’s loss to the New York Knicks.

Murray underwent an MRI exam in New York on Thursday, which confirmed the sprain “with associated swelling,” the team said.

Murray is in his first season with Atlanta after an All-Star campaign with the San Antonio Spurs in 2021-22. The Hawks traded for Murray and Jock Landale in exchange for Danilo Gallinari and future first-round picks in late June.

In 25 games (all starts), Murray has averaged 20.8 points, 6.2 assists and 5.4 rebounds in his first season in Atlanta. He’s also recorded 1.8 steals per game after leading the league with 2.0 per game last season.

The injury means Atlanta could be down three regular starters. Last week, the Hawks said forward John Collins would miss at least two weeks with a left ankle sprain and joint swelling and fellow forward De’Andre Hunter would be out at least one week with a right hip flexor strain.

Neither played in Wednesday’s 113-89 loss to the Knicks but the Hawks have listed Hunter as questionable to play Friday against the Brooklyn Nets.

Bogdan Bogdanovic and Justin Holiday could take on an expanded role in the backcourt in Murray’s absence.
