Sacramento Kings forward Harrison Barnes had a $25.1 million player option for the 2019-20 NBA season that most expected him to pick up.

However, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Barnes will decline the offer to become an unrestricted free agent, noting the Kings and Barnes are open to “exploring a new deal together this summer.”

Barnes, 27, had an interesting 2018-19 season.

He was famously traded, mid-game, this past season, as Dallas moved him to Sacramento as part of the deal that sent Zach Randolph and Justin Jackson. As a member of the Kings, Barnes saw his production decline, averaging 14.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

A former No. 7 overall pick, Barnes had become a key player in Dallas from 2016 until he was traded, averaging over 19 points per game during the two seasons between 2016-17 and 2017-18.
