The Big Hurt celebrates his 46th birthday today. He is a recent inductee into the Baseball Hall of Fame and has plenty to celebrate over his 19-year career.
In his Rookie year, Thomas was drafted by the Chicago White Sox as a 22 year old in the first round (seventh overall). And since then, it’s needless to say he has made a name for himself. Thomas concluded the 1990 season with a .330 batting average with seven home runs and 31 RBI’s in 60 games in his first year in the Bigs.
Thomas continued his career with the Chicago White Sox where he earned the honor of Major League Player of the year in 1993, and in that same year as well as the following season, he was the recipient of the American League Most Valuable Player.
He’s a multiple Silver Slugger Award winner and is a multi-time All-Star.
His final Major League game was played in 2008 at the age of 40 with the Oakland A’s. (I know, it’s strange to see him in anything that isn’t Chicago White Sox colors)
Frank Thomas was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2014 by the BBWAA with 478 votes and 83.7 % of Ballots. (Baseball Reference)
You can now see him commentating for Comcast Sportsnet, sticking to what he knows best (and what we love him for) Chicago White Sox baseball.
Again, Happy Birthday to the Man, the Myth, the Big Hurt, Frank Thomas.
