Note to college basketball players: hanging out with Drake is an NCAA violation. Just ask Kentucky basketball, which self-reported the violation, stemming from an Instagram picture featuring the rapper posing next to Tyler Ulis last year.

Per SECCountry.com:

“A violation of ‘preferential treatment’ occurred when a UK player attended a Drake concert after-party and a member of the famous rapper’s management team recognized the player and invited him back to say hello. UK compliance discovered it after the athlete – whose name is redacted – posted a photo on social media. Tyler Ulis, UK’s started point guard at the time, posted a photo with Drake on Instagram the night of the concert, May 29, 2015, in his hometown of Chicago.”

This violation was reported by Kentucky to the NCAA along with 13 other minor violations.

The school made it clear that Ulis didn’t receive anything or have any previous communication with Drake.

“They merely said hello and took a picture.”

Drake is a huge Kentucky fan and has been seen at many a Wildcats game, so it’s not surprising he would want to hang out with Ulis and was willing to take a picture with the player.

That this constitutes an NCAA violation is beyond absurd. But really, nobody should be surprised. College athletes are held to a ridiculous standard, while the institute that governs them makes money hand over fist and disciplines them harshly for attempting to make money off themselves or benefit from their fame.
