After drawing interest from the San Francisco 49ers, among other teams, former New York Giants first-round pick Hakeem Nicks is reportedly signing with the Tennessee Titans.
Nicks, who played last season with the Indianapolis Colts, has seen his career fall off the map after dealing with foot and ankle injuries late in his tenure with the Giants.
Nicks, 27, recorded just 38 receptions for 405 yards and four touchdowns in 16 games (six starts) in Indy last season. He hasn’t been the same receiver since putting up back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons for the Giants in 2010 and 2011.
While terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed, it’s likely that Nicks received a one-year contract with very little guaranteed. If he can return to 2011 form, the Titans would have made a solid signing here.
Hicks joins an under-performing wide receiver group that includes young pass catchers Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter. For all intents and purposes, he will be tasked with replacing Nate Washington as the veteran wide receiver for whoever is under center in 2014.
This signing in no way precludes Tennessee from adding a receiver early in next week’s draft.
