Grizzlies grant Lakers permission to speak with Dwight Howard

The Los Angeles Lakers are in need of another center after DeMarcus Cousins suffered a torn ACL during workouts last week in Las Vegas.

Attention immediately turned to former Lakers center Dwight Howard, who was just recently acquired by the Memphis Grizzlies.

According to this report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, Memphis has granted Los Angeles permission to speak with Howard about becoming a member of the Lakers.

It’s not yet known how a move of this ilk would work. Technically, Howard remains under contract with Memphis. Though, the team could very well buy him out.

Howard, 33, played just nine games as a member of the Atlanta Hawks last season. The eight-time All-Star would add a veteran presence to a Lakers team looking to compete for an NBA title.
