Early Saturday morning, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey stopped by ESPN’s College GameDay set to discuss the College Football Playoff. Rece Davis, the host of the show, asked Sankey a simple question, wondering what would happen if Alabama were to somehow upset Georgia later today, which would then leave SEC out of the CFP altogether.
Sankey didn’t want to hear it. The SEC commish says such a scenario wouldn’t live up to the spirit of college football without its best teams playing in the biggest games of the year.
“Let’s go back to like Sesame Street … one of these things is not like the other, and that’s the Southeastern Conference. We actually don’t send signs to other people in advance, but that’s cool too.”

Ultimately, Sankey’s right. While the other teams may have shiny records this season, no one can compare to the rigorous schedule of playing in the Southeastern Conference against the likes of Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and more.
He probably didn’t need to channel Big Bird, Bert and Ernie, or any other Sesame Street characters to do so, but we like the colorful reference anyway.
