On Monday, Scottie Scheffler earned the Jack Nicklaus Award as the 2025 PGA Tour Player of the Year. It marks the fourth consecutive year Scheffler has earned the honor, voted on by his peers.

He is the second player to win Player of the Year honors in four consecutive years, joining Tiger Woods when he won five straight in 1999-2003.

Winning golf’s oldest major championship tops the list. Scottie Scheffler won the Open Championship in July by four shots to claim his third different major championship. He only needs a U.S. Open trophy to complete the career Grand Slam, something six men have done in men’s professional golf history

Overall, winning two major championships is a feat in itself. Two months prior to winning the Open Championship in July, Scottie Scheffler won the PGA Championship in World No. 1 fashion. Playing at Quail Hollow in North Carolina, he had a six-stroke lead entering the final three holes before winning by five. Scheffler won his first Wanamaker Trophy as it came one year since being arrested at the 2024 PGA Championship.

Second straight Memorial Tournament win

Among the non-major events and the Players Championship, one of the premier events is the Memorial Tournament. Hosted by Nicklaus, Scheffler became the first player to successfully defend a title at Muirfield Village since Woods in 1999-2001. Scheffler won by four strokes and also became the first player to defend a title on the PGA Tour since his 2024 win at the Players Championship.

Winning at the highest level in golf is no easy task. The next best thing is keeping the gas on the pedal if winning cannot be done. In 2025, Scottie Scheffler did that. Not only did he make the cut in all 20 starts, he finished in the top 25 of every event. Furthermore, he finished in the top 10 at all four majors. That included a fourth-place finish at the Masters and a tie for seventh at the U.S. Open.

The postseason, no matter the sport, provide a little more pressure than the regular season. Scheffler faced that during the FedEx Cup Playoffs in August during the BMW Championship Leading by one on the 71st hole, Scheffler’s shot on the par-3 17th went into the greenside rough, setting up a difficult second shot. However, Scheffler defied the odds and sunk it for a chip-in birdie for one of his best shots of the year to win by two.

For the third consecutive year, Scottie Scheffler won the Byron Nelson Award for the lowest scoring average. Scheffler posted a 68.131 scoring average and became the first player since Woods in 2000 to lead the PGA Tour in all round rounds scoring, individually. Scheffler had a 67.45 round 1 scoring average, 68.00 in round 2, 68.40 in round 3 and 68.1 in round 4. The consistency was on display, despite missing the early portion of the season due to hand injury.

Nothing is more special on the PGA Tour than winning in a player’s home city. This comes especially after all the traveling that takes place, moving cities, states or countries from week to week. Scheffler won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, which takes place in McKinney, Texas, which is 30 miles of Scheffler’s hometown of Dallas. Scheffler won in historic fashion, matching the lowest PGA Tour score of 31-under 254. He also set the 36-hole course record of 124.

In 2025, Scottie Scheffler ultimately won six times on the PGA Tour. It is the second consecutive season Scheffler won at least six times on Tour after winning seven last year. Scheffler joined Woods with six or more wins in multiple seasons, dating back to 1983. This shows how consistently dominant Scheffler has had, winning 19 times in the last four seasons.

The numbers inside Scheffler’s 2025 season play an important role to his six wins and by not missing a cut. In addition to winning the Byron Nelson Award for scoring average, Scheffler led the PGA Tour in other statistics. Scheffler posted a season-high 17 top 10 finishes, including 15 straight to end the year. He also led the PGA Tour with 2.361 strokes gained tee to green, 1.291 strokes gained approach and 2.743 strokes gained total.

Scottie Scheffler emerged as one of Nike’s top athletes, joining players like LeBron James and Christiano Ronaldo. Nike celebrated Scheffler’s Player of the Year in festive fashion with three stockings for him, his wife and son. The 45-second ad wraps up by adding his fourth Jack Nicklaus Award trophy above the fireplace. It also ends with the phrase, “The More The Merrier.”
