Both Brooks Koepka and Scottie Scheffler have been benched by America’s captain Zach Johnson heading into Saturday’s four-balls portion of the Ryder Cup.

Already facing a nearly insurmountable deficit of 9.5 to 2.5, now the United States will have to continue without two of the biggest names involved in the Ryder Cup. Scheffler, the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world, and five-time major winner Koepka will have to cheer on their teammates from the sidelines while their peers look to get the U.S. back in the competitive picture.

The demotion comes after Koepka and Scheffler lost nine and seven to Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg in foursomes. This was the largest defeat in Ryder Cup history by a duo across 18 holes.

But it’s not just Koepka and Scheffler who are down on their luck entering play Saturday. Rickie Fowler also missed the cut after losing his duos matchup along with Collin Morikawa when they faced off with Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka.

This leaves Max Homa as the sole American set to play in all five Ryder Cup sessions this weekend.
