President Trump extended warm congratulations to Rory McIlroy on Sunday after the Irish golfer defended his title and secured back-to-back victories at the 2026 Masters Tournament at Augusta National.

McIlroy became just the fourth player in history to win consecutive green jackets, joining golfing immortals Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo, and Tiger Woods.

Trump praised the two-time defending champion for his composure under intense pressure during a final round that featured some spectacular shots around Amen Corner and a fairly dramatic finish.

“Congratulations to Rory McIlroy on another Great Championship, The Masters! He performed tremendously under intense pressure, something which few people would be able to even think about doing,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social media platform.

“With each year, Rory is becoming more and more a LEGEND!”

The president added that he looks forward to watching McIlroy compete at Doral in two weeks for the PGA TOUR Cadillac Championship, while highlighting the extraordinary quality of today’s professional golfers.

Trump Praises Rory McIlroy’s Historic Repeat Victory at Augusta

McIlroy closed with a final-round 71 to win by one shot at 12-under par, capping a dominant week in which he led after every round.

Still, it wasn’t without drama. Rory saw a 6-stroke lead after a record-setting two-round pace completely evaporate on Saturday. And he had to hold off a hard-charging Scottie Scheffler, who had his birdie putt on 17 gone about half an inch to the right, might have forced a playoff.

McIlroy’s repeat triumph comes one year after he completed the career Grand Slam with his first Masters title.

The President also posted an image of Rory and his father joining him for a round of golf at Trump International Golf Club in Florida.

Trump’s message is another sign that McIlroy is getting international attention for his incredible success. The golf phenom will try to continue his journey to an actual calendar-year Grand Slam at the 2026 PGA Championship, which begins on May 14th.

No golfer has ever won the modern golf Grand Slam (all four professional majors) in a single calendar year. In 1930, amateur legend Bobby Jones achieved what is universally recognized as golf’s only true calendar-year Grand Slam. He won the four major championships of his era.

In 2000, Woods won the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and PGA Championship (three majors in one year). He then won the 2001 Masters, holding all four major titles simultaneously across two calendar years.

But that ain’t the technical definition of a Grand Slam, and it famously became known as the “Tiger Slam.”
