Giants still not ready to bench struggling QB Eli Manning

The New York Giants were officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 17-0 shutout loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. New York entered Week 15 with four wins in its previous five games.

But a vast majority of the team’s success during that span involved stud rookie running back Saquon Barkley. Veteran quarterback Eli Manning continues to struggle. That came out in droves at home on Sunday. The veteran completed just 21-of-44 passes for 229 yards with two turnovers in the humiliating defeat.

Even with the Giants at 5-9 and playing out the string, it looks like the team is not going to bench Manning for rookie quarterback Kyle Lauletta.

“Think we’re going to try to put the player in that gives us the best chance to win,” head coach Pat Shurmur said, via Ralph Vacchiano of SNY. “We’ll see if that involves Kyle. Eli playing QB I think gives us the best chance to win.”

Are the Giants really going to continue with this charade heading into next season? Previous reports suggested that Manning could return as the team’s starter for 2019. This comes after he’s posted an 8-21 record as a starter since the start of last season.

With youngsters on both sides of the ball, it’s high time the Giants let go of their past and start anew with a rebuild. Manning certainly shouldn’t be part of said rebuild. Just don’t tell that to the Giants.
