Giants seriously considering trading down from fourth pick?

Giants Mock Draft

There’s going to be a ton of movement at the top of the 2020 NFL Draft next week. One team in that of the Detroit Lions, selecting No. 3 overall, has already noted it’s in talks about a potential trade down.

We can now add another team to the mix. New York Giants general manager David Gettleman indicated on Friday that he’s seriously considering moving down from the fourth pick.

A lot of this will depend on what happens with the Lions at three. If they move down with a quarterback-needy team, the Giants’ selection at four likely takes on less value.

As of right now, multiple teams prefer Oregon’s Justin Herbert to the better-known Tua Tagovailoa. Even if Herbert were to go at four, another team might very well bite the bullet and go after Tua with the Giants’ pick.

Boasting talented young signal caller Daniel Jones, New York obviously has no need under center. Rather, the focus should be on getting Jones some help. That could come at tackle, where Nate Solder has not lived up to expectations. Most recently, the Giants have been linked to Georgia stud tackle Andrew Thomas.

Even then, Gettleman knows full well that the 2020 NFL Draft is absolutely stacked at tackle. He could move down to the bottom end of the top 10 or even out of the top 10 altogether and land one of the top tackles while adding necessary capital to build up the talent for his rebuilding Giants.

It’s something to look at with the 2020 NFL Draft set to get going in less than a week.
