Undrafted rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday for his efforts in Monday night’s comeback win against the Green Bay Packers.

Starting his fourth straight game and winning his third in a row, DeVito drove the Giants into position for the game-winning field goal in a 24-22 victory at MetLife Stadium.

The 25-year-old New Jersey native completed 17 of 21 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown and rushed 10 times for 71 yards with no turnovers.

His fairy-tale rise may be a surprise but it’s not an accident, says Giants head coach Brian Daboll.

“He prepares really well. He’s in here on his days off, spends a lot of time with the coaches. He just tries to do everything he can do to put himself in as good a position as he can,” Daboll said Wednesday.

“… He’s done a good job of just trying to execute his job. Right mindset, knows he’s got things to work on, like we all do, but comes to work every day.”

DeVito is the first Giants rookie quarterback to win three consecutive starts since Phil Simms won four in a row in 1979. Daboll resisted any comparison to another underdog quarterback he watched closely develop — Tom Brady in New England — following DeVito’s latest outing. Daboll was on staff when the Patriots drafted Brady 199th out of Michigan.

“We’re four games in,” he said when asked whether DeVito’s rise is similar to Brady’s. “I do appreciate the question.”

The AFC Offensive Player of the Week plays in the same stadium. Jets quarterback Zach Wilson passed for 301 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions as New York snapped a five-game losing streak by beating the Houston Texans.

He is the Giants’ first player of the week honoree this season and first since another rookie, Kayvon Thibodeaux, was the NFC Defensive Player of the Week in Week 15 in 2022.

DeVito vaulted from practice squad player to QB1 after injuries to starter Daniel Jones and backup Tyrod Taylor. He will be under center again Sunday when the Giants (5-8) visit the New Orleans Saints (6-7).
